Biography

Charlie Hewett grew up around Boston, Massachusetts, graduating from Boston English High School. He briefly settled in Libertyville, Illinois, where he lived when he made the 1959 Pan American team and the 1960 Olympic team. The highlight of his cycling career came at the 1959 Pan Ams when he won a gold medal with the US team pursuit. Hewett then returned to the Boston area, living for many years in Framingham and then Westborough, Massachusetts, where he worked as a vice-president of sales for the Schwinn Bicycle Company. He later lived in Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina and then Southampton, New Jersey.
