In 1926 Norwegian cyclist Gustav Kristiansen won three national titles, winning the 1 km and 10 km track titles, and the individual time trial title on the road. One year later Kristiansen defended his 1 km track title to earn himself a place on the Olympic team. Despite being a track specialist, he competed in the road race, where he came 35th, more than 30 minutes behind the race winner. In 1929 Kristiansen won another Norwegian title in the individual time trial and was awarded with the King’s Cup for the best sporting performance in the country. His nephew Erling Kristiansen was one of the best cyclists in Norway in the years after the end of World War II.
