Austrian track cyclist Roland Königshofer participated in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics, but the Austrian 4,000 metres pursuit team was eliminated in the qualification. In the points race, Königshofer placed 12th.
One of the most successful Austrian cyclists ever, Königshofer was a three-time World motor-paced (stayer´s) champion from 1989-91 and won ten consecutive World Championship medals in this discipline. From 1987-90, he was the overall winner of the stayer´s European Cup.
Königshofer won 29 Austrian national titles in various disciplines (team pursuit, two-man team race, points race, and derny). In 1995 and 1996, he finished third at the European Championships in the stayer’s race.
Königshofer’s former wife was a national youth handball goalkeeper, and his son Lucas became a football (soccer) professional in Germany. In 2022, Königshofer founded his own consultancy dealing with security and riding courses for professional cyclists.
