John Magri rode for the Mosta Cycling Club in Malta, winning several local and national championships. Magri often trained with his cousin Louis Bezzina, with the pair being selected to compete at the 1972 München Olympics. Along with compatriots Alfred Tonna and Joseph Said, the Maltese quartet finished 31st in the team time trial at the Games. Magri also ran Magri Cycles, a family business started by his grandfather in 1889, and later became the President of the Mosta Cycling Club.
