In 1935 cyclist Jacques Majerus finished 15th in the amateur road race at the World Championships. This performance earned Majerus a place on the Luxembourg Olympic team for the 1936 Berlin Games. In the road race he was in the main peloton of more than 20 riders who tied for 16th place, just three seconds behind the winning time. Three years later he won the Luxembourg national road race title. Despite the war, Majerus continued to have good results, including winning the Grand Prix de Pétang in 1943 and the Tour of Luxembourg a year later. His older brother Jean won stages at the Tour de France and his son-in-law Edy Schütz was a six-time national road race champion.
