Biography

In 1953 cyclist Bechir Mardassi won the overall classification of the Tour of Tunisia before finishing second two years later. Mardassi continued to have consistent results at the race throughout the decade, eventually earning himself a place on the Tunisian Olympic team. At the 1960 Roma Games he finished 27th in the 100 kilometres team time trial, in addition to competing in the individual road race. In 1961 he finished second in the road race at the national championships before riding in the 1962 edition of the Peace Race.
