Biography

Michael Markussen was a track rider who won the Danish junior title in individual pursuit in 1973. In 1983 and 1984 he was on the winning pursuit team at the Danish Championships. He later turned to the points race where he won the World Championship in 1983 as an amateur, and in 1990 he placed second in that event at the professional Worlds. After the 1984 Olympics Markussen turned professional and rode six-day races, mostly in Europe, although he did win a 1989 event in Perth.
