Biography

West German track cyclist Uwe Messerschmidt surprisingly won the silver medal in the points race at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Four years later at Seoul, he finished sixth. In 1987, Messerschmidt added another silver medal at the World Championships, and that same year won the “Around Düren” road race. He then rode several six-day-races and other track events, mostly with Manfred Donike. By profession, Messerschmidt became a graduated industrial clerk.
