Belgian cyclist Englebert Opdebeeck had a strong career as an amateur, having multiple top-10 placings in races during the mid-1960s. In addition to winning races in his native Belgium, Opdebeeck also had success in Luxembourg and Poland, earning himself a place on the Belgian Olympic team. At the 1968 Mexico City Games he placed 18th in the team time trial with his compatriots. One year later he turned professional, remaining consistent in smaller races in Belgium and across northern Europe. Opdebeeck rode in the Tour de France in 1972 and 1973, as well as the Vuelta a España in 1972 too.
