In 1936 Armand Putzeys won the Belgian road championship for amateurs before competing at the Olympics, where he won a bronze medal in the team road race. At the Berlin Games, Putzeys also finished fifth in the 4,000 metres team pursuit on the track. Near the end of World War II he had a brief career as a professional, placing fourth in the 1943 Flèche Wallonne and 10th at Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 1945. After winning a few minor races he retired from cycling a year later.
