Biography

Sid Ramsden was an Australian cyclist who represented Carlton ACC in Melbourne during the 1920s becoming the road champion of Victoria. In 1924 Ramsden was selected as part of Australia’s delegation for the Paris Olympics. Four cyclists went to the Games, with Ramsden being the only one to take part in the individual road race, with the others competing in the velodrome. He finished 36th overall, almost one hour behind the winning time. In July 1926 Ramsden was out cycling when he was involved in a road accident involving a bus. He was knocked unconscious, suffering a fractured skull, and requiring 28 stiches in his head.
