Biography

Danish track cyclist Jens Sørensen was active during the 1960s and specialised in six-day racing. Representing the Dansk Bicycle Club in København, Sørensen had an impressive record at the Ordrup velodrome, winning more than 30 races. He was only 19-years-old when was called up to the Danish Olympic team to compete at the 1960 Roma Games, where he rode as part of the quartet in the 4,000 metres team pursuit.

After the Olympics, Sørensen won bronze at the 1961 Danish track championships in both the sprint and the omnium. He then participated in several six-day races in Perth, Australia, finishing second in 1962 and third in 1964. Back in Europe he also rode in the 1965 edition of the Tour of Poland, placing fourth on the seventh stage of the race.

Following his cycling career Sørensen worked in the insurance sector, eventually becoming the head of the Danish Life Assurance Agency’s branch in the town of Hillerød. His son Rolf won silver in the road race at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
