In 1960 competitive cyclist Luis Zárate was part of Mexico’s delegation that competed at the Roma Olympics. Zárate participated in the road race, finishing 61st in a small group of riders who were almost five-and-a-half minutes behind the winner. He also rode in the 100 kilometres team time trial at the Games with compatriots Armando Martínez and Filiberto Mercado.
