Biography

In the early 1960s Dutch cyclist Bart Zoet won several amateur races in the Netherlands to earn himself a place on the Olympic team for the 1964 Games in Tokyo. Zoet was part of the Dutch quartet that pulled off an upset at the Games when they won gold, beating the two-time World Championship winners Italy. One year later Zoet turned professional but was unable to establish himself, despite showing early talent, winning smaller races in the Netherlands and Belgium. Towards the end of the decade he rode in both the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a España before retiring in 1969. Zoet was only 49-years-old when he died of a heart attack in May 1992.
