Roberto Anderson

A member of Club Deportivo Ferrocarril General Mitre in Buenos Aires, Roberto Anderson was one of the 16 men chosen for the first ever Olympic field hockey squad to represent Argentina at the 1948 Olympic Games in London. Though he was responsible for one of the goals scored in a 3-2 win against Spain, the team was eventually outscored by a combined total of 5-12 and finished with a record of 1 win, 1 loss and 1 tie, and did not advance past the preliminary round. He continued his involvement in field hockey as a coach, manager, as well as a player into the 1960s.

Anderson was a member of a prominent field hockey family in Argentina, his brother Alberto “Baby” Anderson was also an active player in the 1940s and 1950s. His son Eduardo Anderson represented Argentina at the 1968 Ciudad de Mexico (Mexico City) Olympics, and many of his grandchildren and extended family were also later involved in the sport at a high level.
