London-born Phillip Tomalin moved to France in 1891 and remained there for virtually the rest of his life. He returned to Britain at the start of World War II in 1939, but died the following year. Tomalin was President of the Standard Athletic Club from 1892 to 1939, and was with them when they won the first French football title in 1894. He was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1932 for his continued development of friendship between France and Britain through sport. He had previously been awarded the Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Order of Academic Palms). His contribution to the 1900 Olympic cricket match was 3 and 6 runs, and was the not out batsman on each occasion. He was 45 years-of-age at the time of the match.
