During the 1950s and early 1960s Finnish sportsman Esko Silvennoinen played both field and ice hockey. In the former Silvennoinen represented Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho, winning the Finnish field hockey championship in 1951, 1952, and 1954. His early performances also earned him a place on the Olympic team for his home Games in Helsinki in 1952. On the ice Silvennoinen represented Hämeenlinnan Tarmo, finishing runner-up in the national championship in 1953 and 1956, as well as third in 1952 and 1958.
