Biography

David Faulkner formed a formidable fullback pairing with Paul Barber and they played alongside each other in every one of Britain’s seven matches in Seoul at the 1988 Olympics. In the same year, Faulkner was noted Player of the Year by the Hockey Writer’s Club, finishing one vote ahead of Sean Kerly and Richard Dodds in the balloting. Apart from his Olympic gold medal, Faulkner won silver medals in the 1986 World Cup and the 1987 European Cup. In 1988 he also led his club, Havant, to second place in the National League and to the semi-finals of the Hockey Association Cup. After making his England début against West Germany in 1982 and first playing for Great Britain the following year, Faulkner went on to win 69 caps for Great Britain and 81 for England.
