Biography

Veryan Pappin went to the Seoul Olympics as the reserve goalkeeper and as the tournament progressed it became apparent that he had little chance of replacing the brilliant Ian C. B. Taylor. However, Pappin was called on for the last minute of the final and as he had, therefore, actually played in the Olympics he was awarded a goal medal as a member of the winning squad. A physical education officer in the RAF, Pappin won 37 caps for Scotland and 17 for Great Britain. He played for Hounslow.
