Biography

Roger Sutton captained the King´s College (Canterbury) hockey first XI in 1956 before going to Edmund Hall, Oxford, where he continued playing hockey and won his Blue in 1959.

Sutton played his club hockey at Beckenham and also played for Kent, and was in the side that became the first to win back-to-back county championship titles in 1965. Sutton was also a Wales and Great Britain international and toured India and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) with the GB squad in the winter of 1963/64.

Sutton was a half-back and uniquely in 1961 played at left-half for his club side, right-half for Kent, and centre-half for Wales. He announced his retirement from international hockey shortly before the 1965 county championship final.

Sutton was also a keen golfer and cricketer.
