Biography

Ralph Williams was a Welsh hockey international and played for them in their only game at the 1908 London Olympics, a 3-1 defeat to Ireland, yet he still collected a bronze medal. A former secretary of the South Wales Hockey Association, Williams was also a good cricketer. A wicketkeeper, he played alongside fellow Olympian Frederick Phillips at Newport and in the Monmouthshire County XI.

Williams was the son of an Army colonel and was educated at Marlborough and later in Switzerland. He became a successful businessman and was a director of the well-known Cardiff and London shipowners Watts, Watts & Co. Ltd.
