Kusuma Wardhani was a pioneering archer from Indonesia who won multiple medals at the South East Asian (SEA) Games and the nation’s first medal at the Olympic Games. At the 1985 SEA Games Wardhani won three individual gold medals followed by four more golds at the 1987 Games. She also won three silvers in 1985, three bronzes in 1987, and another silver medal in 1997. She was part of the Indonesian women’s team that won the silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the first time that Indonesia had won an Olympic medal. The story of Wardhani and her teammates Nurfitriyana Saiman and Lilies Handayani was told in the 2016 biopic film 3 Srikandi (“3 Heroines”). After her retirement from sport Wardhani became the head of the Education, Youth, and Sports Office in Bali.
