Biography

Leslie Lyness played college hockey (field) at the University of North Carolina, where she was a two-time All-American, was the 1989 ACC Player of the Year, and in 1990, received the Honda Award as the nation’s top collegiate player. Lyness played for the USA at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and she twice played at the Pan American Games, winning bronze in 1991 and 1995. Lyness earned 92 caps during her career. She retired after the 1996 Olympics. Lyness was inducted into the US Field Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004.

In 2002, after her playing days ended, Lyness attended medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and did her neurosurgical residency at the same hospital. Lyness practiced neurosurgery at the Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
