Biography

Giuseppina Bersani began to compete with the foil under the guidance of one of the fathers of Piacenza’s Circolo di Scherma G. Pettorelli, master Bruno Polidoro. Bersani competed in international tournaments several times with the national team, achieving numerous awards. In her palmares we find fourth place at the World Championships in Wien (Vienna) in 1971 and gold at the international tournament in Montecarlo (1968). In 1967 and 1969 she was Italian champion in the youth category.

In 1970 the Italian Olympic Committee awarded her the Bronze Merit. In her only Olympic participation in 1972 she took part only in the team event, finishing fourth after losing the bronze medal match against Romania.

In the 2000s Bersani returned to Piacenza to teach fencing to generations of young athletes of the Circolo Pettorelli Club until her death at the age of 74.
