French-born Eugène Plisson graduated from the French Army with top-class grades and, after being based in London, became one of the star pupils of Professor Philippe Bourgeois at the French Academy of Fencing at Langham Chambers, which the professor ran from around 1886. Plisson and Bourgeois would regularly entertain audiences by engaging in foil exhibitions. Plisson was chosen to represent Great Britain at the 1900 Olympics in his home city of Paris. Competing in the individual foil, he failed to progress beyond the first round.
