Biography

At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Josef Uhlmann finished fourth with the epée team, and the following year he won the German epée championship. He was also active as a fencing administrator but had to withdraw in 1933 as he could not provide proof of an Aryan background. Nevertheless he became a member of the SS.

In 1948, having retired from his sports career he founded a company that initially manufactured fencing accessories. Nowadays, the company is the global market leader in constructing machinery for the packaging of pharmaceuticals in so-called blister packs.
