William Valentine competed for the Chicago Archers. He entered only the Double American Round at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. Valentine graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in pharmacy, and later ran a drugstore in Chicago, Valentine and Berger’s, but he is best known for training an employee there, Charles Walgreen, in the later 19th century. Walgreen was driven very hard by Valentine but was inspired to become a pharmacist and later started his own famous chain of drugstores, Walgreen’s.
