Biography

The honorary secretary of the Bournemouth Fire Brigade at the 1900 Paris Olympics, Howard Eady moved to Jersey shortly after those Games. On 1 January 1902 he became the chief officer of the first official Fire Brigade at St. Helier, Jersey. He held that post until returning to England in 1915. Originally an apprentice carpenter, Eady later became a telephone electrician and on moving to Jersey worked his way up to become the district manager of the island’s telephone company.
