Biography

Wilhelm Croneborg was the son of chamberlain Johan Ulrik Wilhelm Croneborg and the German baroness Marie von Berg. Wilhelm joined the Life Regiment’s Hussar as a volunteer in 1878 and graduated from secondary school in 1880. He attended the military school in 1881 and joined his regiment as a second lieutenant. Croneborg was promoted to lieutenant in 1891 and to captain in 1902. From 1890-95, he worked as an instructor at the Strömsholm riding school in military and sports subjects. After he was transferred to the Skåne Dragoon Regiment, he rose to the rank of major in 1908 and to lieutenant colonel in 1913, and served as colonel and commander from 1914-20. He then was discharged from active service and became a reserve officer. In 1915, he became a member of the Royal Academy of Military Sciences. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the Sword.

At the 1912 Olympic Games, Croneborg acted as a judge in the dressage. In 1899, married Gerda Amalia Cnattingius, a mother of three from her first marriage. His wife was a cousin of 1908 fencing Olympian Birger Cnattingius.
