Paul Krimmel was one of the great American Gymnasts before World War I. Between 1911 and 1913, he won seven AAU gymnastics championships including two all-around titles. In 1913, he placed second in the all-around. On the apparatuses, he won gold on the horizontal bar (1910, 1912), on the parallel bars (1913), and in the vault (1912-13). Competing for the New York Turnverein (NYTV), he added 10 New York Metropolitan AAU championships in the same period.
Krimmel graduated from normal school and later became superintendent of physical education in Syracuse, NY. A strong supporter of the normal school, a teachers’ training college, he served as chairman of the Normal College Support Group and, in 1937, president of the Normal College Maintenance Fund campaign. In 1941, Paul Krimmel served as chairman of the board of directors, which supported the continuation of social and health programs for the Normal College.
In 1917, he married Elise S. Stecker; they had one daughter. In 1994, Paul Kimmel was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
