Biography

Tine Scheuer-Larsen was a Danish tennis player who played professionally from 1981 to 1996. Scheuer-Larsen achieved a career-best singles ranking of #34 in the world in September 1986, and a doubles ranking of #14 in the world in October 1988.

Scheuer-Larsen won six ITF singles finals in her career, with the first five victories all coming in 1983, and her sixth title in 1989. She also won four ITF doubles titles between April 1983 and February 1992. On the WTA Tour she only reached one singles final, where she lost to Elise Burgin in Charleston, South Carolina in April 1986. Scheuer-Larsen had greater success as a doubles player, winning seven WTA titles from April 1987 to July 1990.

Scheuer-Larsen played on Denmark’s Fed Cup team from 1981 to 1996. In the 1995 Fed Cup Europe/Africa Zone regional competition she recorded a golden set by winning the set without losing a single point. She scored the 24 points required to win the set 6–0, without conceding any points, when she beat Mmaphala Letsatle of Botswana.

At Grand Slams Scheuer-Larsen reached the singles fourth round at the 1985 French Open and the doubles quarter-finals at the 1989 French Open. Her best Grand Slam performance came in the mixed doubles at the 1987 French Open when she and Michael Mortensen reached the semi-finals where they lost to the tournament’s eventual winners Pam Shriver and Emilio Sánchez Vicario.

Scheuer-Larsen competed in the singles at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and the 1988 Seoul Olympics. At the Los Angeles Games tennis was a demonstration sport with Scheuer-Larsen losing her first round match to Andrea Jaeger. She fared better at the Seoul Games where she reached the third round before losing to Natasha Zverava in straight sets.
