Gus Prokop fenced for the Fencers Club of New York, after graduating from Stuyvesant High School. He won national titles in team foil with the Fencers Club in 1949-50. Prokop served as a lieutenant in the US Army during World War II from February 1943 to August 1945, serving in North Africa, Italy, Germany, and France.
