Biography

Milano’s Bruno Arrigoni enrolled in the Società Canottieri as a boy and it was there that first started playing basketball. His playing career in the fourth league ended when he was 26, but for five years he had been showing an aptitude for coaching.

In 1969, Arrigoni joined the Simmenthal team as a youth team coach and they won three Italian titles. Then he joined Sandro Gamba as assistant coach at Ignis Varese where he won two top league titles, a European Champions Cup and an Intercontinental Cup. After a year at Bergamo, Arrigoni started coaching in the women’s game with FIAT Torino where, in three years, he won two Italian top league titles and a European Champions Cup.

In 1979 Arrigoni joined the national team as assistant coach to Claudio Vandoni and they finished fifth at the World Championship in Seoul. In December of the same year, Arrigoni was promoted to head coach and took the team to the Moskva Olympics and European Championships in Yugoslavia, before handing over to Vittorio Tracuzzi. After returning to the men’s league with Verona, Cantù and Varese, Arrigoni then embarked on a career as a manager and external consultant to various clubs.
