Billie Moore coached the first United States’ women’s Olympic basketball team, leading them to a silver medal in 1976 at Montréal. Moore also led the USA national team at the 1973 Universiade and the 1975 Pan American Games, winning gold at the latter event.

Moore coached Cal State Fullerton from 1969-77, leading them to the AIAW National Championship in 1970, and then led UCLA from 1977-93, winning the 1978 AIAW National Championship with the Bruins. She was the first women’s coach to lead two different schools to NCAA basketball championships.

Basketball coaching legend Pat Head-Summitt said of Moore, “Billie Moore has had more influence on my coaching career than anyone. She was my mentor. She’s had a huge impact on my coaching style.” Moore was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame in 2000. She died after a long battle with multiple myeloma.
