Lee Lai-Fa played baseball in the early 1980s before turning to coaching. Lee worked as a coach for the national team of Chinese Taipei with his first major assignment coming at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. By 1992 he had become the head coach of the team, helping them win silver at the Barcelona Olympics. He later coached professional teams in Tiawan and returned to the Olympics for the 2004 Games in Athens.
