A silver medalist at the 1968 Olympics with the Bulgarian football side, Georgi Hristakiev was a defender then competing for Lokomotiv Sofia. He had earlier played for Beroe Stara Zagora (1962-63), Chepinets Velingrad (1963-64), and Spartak Plovdiv (1964-65), before joining Lokomotiv. After the Olympics, Khristakiev moved to Slavia Sofia in 1969, joining Lokomotiv Plovdiv in 1970-71, and then finishing his career back with Lokomotiv Sofia from 1971-75. Khristakiev was a member of the Bulgarian National Team from 1966-73, earning 14 caps.
