Emil Jørgensen won four caps for the Danish national team. He made his début for the national team in a friendly against England in 1911 in London. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, Denmark had a bye in round one and defeated Norway and the Netherlands convincingly to reach the final. Here they lost 4-2 to Great Britain (England) winning Olympic silver. Jørgensen missed the first match because he was not given leave by his employer, the København (Copenhagen) Tax Service, where he worked as an office clerk. After public protests, he was allowed to go to Stockholm in time for the semi-final. With his goal he put Denmark ahead after just seven minutes. He won his last cap in a match against Germany later that year.
At home, Jørgensen played 115 matches scoring 11 goals for B.93 København between 1901 and 1917 interrupted by two short spells playing for Østerbros Boldklub (ØB). He helped B.93 to win the club’s first Danish Championship in 1916 as a centre-half. Jørgensen was known to be a good tackler as well as having a good shot.
Jørgensen was an unsalaried secretary of the Københavns Boldspil-Union (Copenhagen Football Union, KBU) for 32 years, from 1915 until his death. He also acted as treasurer for the Dansk Boldspil-Union (Danish Football Association, DBU), unofficial national coach and coach of B.93’s talents. His wife was Anna Kirstine Malmqvist.
