Biography

Axel Tufvesson started playing in the youth team of B.93. From 1908-13 he played 57 matches and scored 51 goals as an inside right for the first team. When he got less playing time with B.93, he wore the colours of Østerbros Boldklub (ØB) for the following four years.

Tufvesson made his début for the national team in a friendly against England in 1911 in London. At the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, Denmark had a bye in round one and defeated Norway and the Netherlands convincingly to reach the final. Here they lost 4-2 to Great Britain (England), winning Olympic silver. Tufvesson only played in the final, replacing the injured Poul Nielsen in what was to be his last game for Denmark’s national team.

Tufvesson was born to Swedish parents who changed the name to Thufason when they moved to Denmark; however, this was probably never confirmed officially. Axel married in 1926, and the couple, who had no children, lived in København’s Nørrebro district. He worked as a confectionery merchant as well as a bandagist worker (orthopaedic technician).
