Biography

The Finnish defender Gösta Löfgren played in 1908 for the Helsinki based club Unitas who won the first ever Finnish championship in that year. Later he represented HIFK. With this club he won silver at the Finnish championship in 1912. At the 1912 Olympic Games, Löfgren played in all four games for the Finnish team. They defeated Italy (in overtime) and Russia in the first two rounds, but had no chance against England in the semifinal and the Netherlands in the bronze medal match. Löfgren played a total of six games for Finland’s national team including their first match against Sweden in October 1911. In the Olympic bronze medal match less than one year later he won his last cap. Löfgren later acted as a referee including three international matches (1922-24).

He married Helga Wilhelmina (née Lund) in 1916. They had two sons and two daughters.
