Biography

August Syrjäläinen was the goalkeeper of Viipurin Reipas and the only player of the Finnish team who did not represent one of the major clubs from Helsinki. At the 1912 Olympic Games, Lund played in all four games of the Finnish team. They defeated Italy (in overtime) and Russia in the first two rounds but were overmatched against England in the semi-final and the Netherlands in the bronze medal match. In addition, he won only one more cap, his début against Sweden prior to the Olympics.

In addition to football he played at least three seasons (1909-11) in the bandy top league. With his wife Olga, he had one son. He worked as a car park attendant. His grandson was the Chilean-Finnish football professional Pablo Yoma Syrjäläinen.
