With guidance from his father and uncle, Navid Mohammadi began practicing karate when he was six-years-old. Mohammadi showed great promise from a young age, eventually making it into Iran’s national junior team in 2014. He won multiple medals at junior and youth events around the world including the Asian Junior Karate Championships and the World Youth Karate Championships. Arguably his best performance came in 2018 when he won gold in the +68 kg class at the Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. Tragically, however, just over six months later Mohammadi was killed in a road accident in Tehran. He was 18-years-old.
