Patrick Cubaynes made his professional football début in his hometown with Nîmes Olympique, before subsequently playing for Bastia, Strasbourg, and Marseille. He reached Avignon in 1989 for two seasons, then Pau for his last stop.
Cubaynes was a good striker, with 304 matches played in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 with a total of 130 goals. If you add UEFA Cup and French National Cup he played 343 matches and scored 144 goals during all his pro career. A finalist with Olympique Marseille in the 1987 French Cup, he reached his sporting peak in 1984 by winning the Olympic gold medal with the national team. In the tournament he played and won a total of 2 matches for only 10 minutes, with three in the final against Brazil, replacing Daniel Xuereb. He never played for France A team.
After his playing days, Cubaynes became the owner of a brewery in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, and was also involved in the local football club.
