Biography

Midfielder Iván Menczel spent his youth career with Salgótarjáni BTC, and débuted with them at the 1959 Hungarian championships, playing there until 1963. Menczel played with Tatabányai Bányász from 1963-67 and won bronzes at the Hungarian Championships in 1964 and 1966. He played with Vasas SC from 1967-72 and won another two bronzes with them at the Hungarian Championships in 1968 and 1971. Menczel finished his career by playing with Vasas Izzó from 1972-76.

Menczel was capped seven times with the Hungarian national team and scored three goals. He was selected to the Hungarian 1962 World Cup team, although he did not play at that tournament. Menczel was also part of the 1968 Hungarian Olympic team, playing in all six matches and winning a gold medal. After finishing his sporting career Menczel worked as a football coach with Vasas Izzó, Fót, Vörös Csillag Gépgyár, Salgótarjáni BTC and Vasas SC.
