József Scheidl had 10 brothers, four of whom played football. From 1928 onwards, he played in the colors of Soproni AC throughout his career, mostly as a right winger under the name Scheidl II and then Soproni.
Although he was invited by several big teams in Budapest, and even by Rapid Wien, he insisted on staying with his hometown.
In 1936, as a member of the amateur national team, he participated in the Berlin Olympics, where he played in the single match of Hungary.
For him, however, the 10th Summer Olympics could have been memorable because he met - and even made friends with - the absolute star of the Olympics, sprinter/long jumper Jesse Owens.
Scheidl returned to his club after the Olympics and played his 500th championship match in 1944. He started to work during his football career. Initially he was a deputy officer in the town hall, then a foreman in the brick factory, the director of the Sopron KIK, an employee of the soil power management company and a wine producer.
In 1993, at the age of 80, he received an award for his sport in Sopron, and on his birthday, the captain of the 1954 world champion German team, Fritz Walter, sent a photograph with a welcome message.
