Charles Martin-Sauvaigo was a painter who had studied in Nice and Paris. He was a Post-impressionist and primarily painted landscapes and sea scenes. In 1922 he became an official marine painter and between 1933-54 was professor for imitation drawing at the Polytechnic School in Paris. He also decorated the large luxury liners of the French merchant fleet.
