Biography

Shaye Musa Al-Nafisa was a Saudi Arabian footballer who played for Al-Kawkab and the national team. Al-Nafisa joined Al-Kawkab in the mid-1970s, playing his first professional match for the side in 1978. While still a member of the team’s youth squad, Al-Nafisa was spotted by talent scouts and called up to the national side for the 1979 Gulf Cup. Despite not playing any matches in the 1979 tournament, he was called up for the 1982 and 1984 editions of the cup.

Al-Nafisa’s most memorable performance would come at the 1984 AFC Asian Cup. In the final of the tournament, against China, he scored the opening goal of the match. Saudi Arabia went on to win the match 2–0 to win their first Asian Cup. Al-Nafisa was also part of Saudi Arabia’s team that played at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

In 1985 Al-Nafisa helped Al-Kawkab to win their first promotion to the Saudi Premier League. He would stay with the club until 1991 when his career was cut short due to a recurring knee injury. For the national team Al-Nafisa played in 32 matches and scored 10 goals.
