Biography

Mexican footballer Javier Sánchez began his career with Cruz Azul in 1966, becoming a key player for the club. With the team Sánchez won five league titles, three CONCACAF Champions Cups, two Champion of Champions trophies, and the Copa México. In 1974 he spent one season with Club Guadalajara before joining Club América, where he won the league title, a CONCACAF Champions Cup, and another Champion of Champions trophy. By the end of the decade Sánchez played one season for Los Angeles Aztecs before he returned to Mexico to finish his playing career.

From 1968 to 1977 Sánchez also played in more than 50 matches for the Mexico national team, including finishing fourth at the Mexico City Olympics. Three years after the Games he was part of the squad that won the CONCACAF Championship in Trinidad and Tobago.
