Biography

Gustaf Sandberg was a midfielder from Göteborg, who played for IFK Göteborg in 1910 and then for Örgryte IS. He won two Swedish cup championships in 1910 with IFK and in 1913 with Örgryte. In 1912 and 1913 he won four caps playing three friendlies and Sweden’s first match at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, which Sweden lost 4-3 in overtime.

In 1912, Sandberg was in the centre of an outrage by players and supporters in a match during the first season of the Svenska Serien between the two clubs from Göteborg, IFK and Örgryte. He worked as an office assistant.
