Biography

Konrad Törnqvist played defense or was a defensive midfielder. He started his career with Jonsereds IF but transferred to IFK Göteborg in 1907. In the same year he helped Göteborg win the Swedish cup championship and repeated this feat in 1910 and 1918. During 17 seasons with IFK until 1924 he played almost 400 matches for the club.

Törnqvist had his début for the national team in 1909 against England’s amateur team, a 7-0 defeat. Until 1919, he represented Sweden in 14 international matches, scoring two goals, both in a 3-2 defeat against the United States in 1916. He captained the team in one match. In the 1912 Olympic tournament he only played in Sweden’s 1-0 defeat against Italy in the consolation round. In 1926, he was awarded the “Stor Grabb” badge in football. He worked as a textile worker and welder.
