Biography

Abderrahman Ben Azzedine joined the junior squad of Club Africain in 1946 and, two years later, transferred to Espérance Sportive de Tunis. He advanced to the senior team for the 1952-1953 season and remained with them until his retirement in 1961. During that time, he won the Tunisian Cup in 1957 and Premier League titles in 1959 and 1960. He was also a member of the Tunisian national team from 1953 on, and was with them at the 1960 Rome Olympics, where they lost all of their matches in the preliminary round and were eliminated.

Ben Azzedine graduated as a professional coach from a school in Belgrade in 1963, becoming the first professional football coach in Tunisia. His most notable stint was as head coach of Espérance Sportive from 1970 through 1975, helping them win league titles in 1970 and 1976. He also published a book on football technique in 1968 and was an advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports from 1968 through 1970.
